March 14, 1816 - Montgomery Dent Corse, Brigadier General (Confederate Army), born in Alexandria, Virginia (d. 1895)

March 14, 1823 - Roswell S. Ripley, Brigadier General (Confederate Army), born in Worthington, Ohio (d. 1887)

March 14, 1862 - Andrew Jackson Smith, USA, is appointed Brig. Gen.

March 14, 1862 - The capture of New Madrid, MO, by Brig. Gen. John Pope, USA, as Maj. Gen. John P. McCown, CSA, retreats to Island No. 10.

Today marks the 160th​ anniversary of the Battle of New Bern. This battle took place at Craven County North Carolina on March 14, 1862. The battle is also called the Battle of New Berne.
