And the day in 1823 that Stephen F. Austin got a land grant from Mexico for land in Texas it kickstarted not only the Texas Revolution but also the annexation of the Republic of Texas into the United States and started the Mexican-American War ending in an American victory and causing tension in 1849-1850 that almost led Texas to send its troops to New Mexico and thus causing an earlier civil war between North and South which was only stopped by the machinations of Stephen A. Douglas and Northern and Southern moderates passing the Compromise of 1850 between August and September. Not to mention that the said event of Texas annexation also led to sectional tension rising again and eventually the actual Civil War in 1861.

One single event involving a Southerner gaining a land grant from the Mexican government to settle Texas along with Anglos made a big difference in America and Manifest Destiny.
