    The GAR Money Box.

For GAR dues? This came from a Pennsylvania auction. The only W.C. Fullerton I could search out was from Minnesota, and his unit fought Indians during part of the Civil War period, and he may have been assigned to a Union boat for a time on the Mississippi River. He later lived in Maryland after...

    GAR Kepi

Hey all! Just picked this up and wanted to show you guys. Seems the dye has faded to a greenish color, and the liner has seen better days. From my research GAR Post 327 was located in Brooklyn, NY and was very active throughout its lifespan!

Discussion What happened to GAR Property?

Last Monday, I visited the "Civil War Room" which is a one-room Civil War museum in a second floor room at the Carnegie Library in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. The library was built in 1906. I posted about this yesterday in this thread, and I also posted about it on my blog. In summary, a Grand Army...

GAR Sword, etched with Post name

Thought I would post a few pics of a GAR sword I recently acquired, as it is a neat piece of memorabilia from the CW veterans era. I have seen pictures of a nearly identical sword on page 110 of "Plates, Belts, and Swords of the GAR and SUV of the Civil War," by Douglas Roussin, which is a great...

    Veterans at Gettysburg?

Picked up this photo in a PA antique store. What struck me immediately about the photo is that it appeared to be a group of veterans visiting an old battleground. If you look closely you can see that the third man from the left is wearing a GAR medal and a canon or two can be seen in between...

Memorial Day Where Those Who Came Home, Remembered, Tamaqua, PA, 1910

Tamaqua, Pennsylvania's GAR Memorial Day Parade, one of their veterans bringing up the rear ranks. Circa 1910, an astonishing number of Civil War veterans from the astonishing number Schuylkill County sent to the war, were alive. And ensured the next generations remembered the fallen. Lost at...

GAR Grave Marker Needs a Union Veteran to Honor

An acquaintance gave me some grave markers. One is a Grand Army of the Republic marker. On the back it says "Presented by County Commissioners, Northumberland." I would like to provide the marker to an appropriate group or individual in time for Memorial Day to honor the grave of a Union veteran.

Hi, Been digging and doing searches on the site for some GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) information and am coming up empty (or way too many nested results to dig through!). Can anyone lead me to a group or posting list that has GAR discussions in specific? Our family has a a pic of a relative...
