I have a close cousin from Galveston last name Southwick who is listed as being in the 9th and then the 11th Texas Infantry.

There are sketchy details about his record, does anybody know if the 9th Texas was on the New Mexico campaign?

No, Sibley's Brigade consisted of the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 7th Texas Mounted Rifles and a few independent mounted companies.

I assume you mean 9th Texas Infantry, of which there were two:

Nichols', which was organized in summer of 1861 for six months' service and mustered out in spring of 1862. Many of the men then enlisted in other units. It contained some men from Galveston.

Maxey's, which was organized in late 1861, reorganized in May 1862 with the passage of the Conscription Act, and served throughout the war in the Western Theater, mainly in the Army of Tennessee. I've done a thread on Maxey's 9th Texas here: https://civilwartalk.com/threads/9th-texas-infantry.134838/

The 11th Texas Infantry served as part of Walker's Texas Division, mainly in Arkansas and Louisiana.

Compiled Service Records for S. B. Southwick. If you need anything specific from Galveston, give me a shout.
