A more recent Jacob Lawrence depiction of Tubman:
You are welcome. Thanks for the comment.Great thread, Pat. Thanks for sharing.
Health food! After visiting the Tubman sites, we went to Dinosaur BarBeQue in Syracuse for dinner. My son Tim and I split a plate of Ribs, Brisket, and Pulled Pork with mac and cheese and cole slaw for only 20 bucks, ten dollars a man.

He looks just like your avatar!Michele was fascinated by the idea that ordinary homes were right next to the Tubman Farm. A chiropractor's office was across the street. "Wow, Harriet Tubman must have walked along that road that they live on."

I picked up her book.Kate Larson discusses writing her biography of Harriet Tubman. Tubman had been the subject of "adult" bios only twice before 2000. Since then three biographies of her have been published. Very interesting information about historical detective work.
Larson recalculated the number of people Tubman helped escape on the Underground Railroad. It was long thought to be 300, but the number given now at the Auburn house is 70-100.
Thanks for posting these photos. Nice to see the property is being properly conserved.Tubman raised pigs and chickens on her farm. Walking around, we saw this old apple tree and imagined that it was descended from the trees in the orchard Tubman planted.

I visited the Tubman sites two years ago, but the visitors' center had not yet opened. Folks should definitely consider heading over to the Eastern Shore to take a look there. It is a beautiful area.Pat, There were quite a few folks at the NPS visitors center outside Cambridge in Woolford, MD over the weekend. Nice facility. Heres the address for the Harriet Tubman byway web site.

It has photos and a video. It heads over to Bucktown and the NPS center among other spots. My wife and I spend a good deal of time in the area during the summer.
When visiting be sure to head down to Old Salty's Restaurant in Fishing Creek for dinner, great folks and great food.
Oh yeah. It is my son Tim's favorite place in Central New York.Health food!
I will have to look into it.He looks just like your avatar!
Thanks, I appreciate that. That was a very good thread. Someplace I would not much of a chance seeing. At least you can do the walking for me. It was both interesting and informative.
