Nice photo. Flag at half staff - what was the occasion?

I think it was for one of the volunteers that had recently passed.


Thanks for posting this - my great grandfather's three eldest brothers went through there in summer 1861. They each made it home, in one piece, more or less. I'd like to visit one day.

They have a museum inside along with a decent amount of books about Camp Moore and also the War. Also have a cemetery out back. Worth the visit if you are in the area.
 
I happened upon this place by accident on the way to Texas in 2008, it is not too far off the interstate, it was beautiful and I highly recommend stopping if you are heading down Louisiana toward Baton Rouge. Since that time, I have read up on it and it is highly historic. Thanks for posting!

The area is virtually unchanged since the War. Even the current railroad follows the original tracks.
