Fort Pillow Hauntings

Hi all.

Just joined the forum. I am the researcher and and a lead investigator for a paranormal investigation group out of southern Illinois called the Little Egypt Ghost Society. I am personally planning a trip to Fort Pillow and would love to know more history about the place. Specifically, I'd like to know personal experiences at Fort Pillow (paranormal). I'd also like to know where the best places to investigate would be and best place to camp (especially for the paranormal). If there is anyone who could tell us more about where some specific things occurred. (e.g. the houses that burned with soldiers alive inside, as these horrific exact locations seem to still possess residual energy and many times present us with the evidence we seek).
We always enjoy company on our excursions to promote awareness and simply socialize and learn from them and their area. If anyone lives nearby and would like to meet up with us we'd love to hear from you. Fort Pillow is only three hours from me and I have been thinking I might spend a little extra time there this summer if the stories I keep reading seem to hold any merit.
Haven't heard anything about ghostly activity at Fort Davidson in Missouri, but am probably headed that way soon, too.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance!!

Hey, welcome to cwt, good to have you with us. Are you anywhere near Saline county by any chance (Harrisburg)? My gg-grampa mustered into the 6th Il cav at that location.

Like the initials of your paranormal society: " L*E*G*S ! "

A big and warm welcome from Texas, MrKale.

You all seem to have a quite a group going. Sounds very interesting.

Keep us posted on your activities and what you find!

My reenacting group goes there once a year and we camp for 3 days. One night my buddy and I went up to the fort around midnight. While in the fort we heard footsteps, moans, drum beats and felt a cold chill all down our backs. We went back this year and while we were in our tents we heard the lid on one of our shipping crates slam shut. Another member heard cannon chains rattling. A friend of mine was there at forrest's head quarters asleep and had a dream that a yankee was choking him. He woke up being shook awake by he buddy. His friend swore he was making choking sounds while he slept. 2 different ghost hunter crews have been to the fort in the past 6 moths. one crew got a EVP with a little boy saying "LA-LA-LA" in a singing tone.. that place is full of creepy feelings and sounds.. I was there today as a matter of fact... I live fairly close to ft pillow..

I may be able to help with some history of the fort and the battle and a little about the layout. I might even be interested to meet you there as I live only 1 hour away.
And besides, my Gr-Gr-Grandfather was killed there on the April 12, 1864 battle.

Goosebumps. I believe in the supernatural/paranormal/ghost bit and I do thoroughly believe that if someone had suffered a violent death with business undone they'd be unable to 'move on', whereever that might be - which basically describes most of the civil war deaths - so I do believe most of the forts have some supernatural energy to them.

To the OP; Welcome to the forum and I wish you the best of luck. Please, do keep us updated on how it went if you decide to go there with McDaniel.

Welcome! We do have a lot of threads about Ft. Pillow. Some of those involve the supernatural. You might use the search function to see if anything will be helpful. I think the traveler's forum also might have something useful for you. Good luck!

Thank you!
I am from Jackson County. Our group's founder (Currently a Lt.Colonel in the Army, but retires in a few months) and his wife actually grew up in Harrisburg.

I would actually love that. Your stories are exactly what we are in search of. Thank you! I will pass it on to the rest of the group and hopefully our schedules can coincide enough for it to work out well. We will probably be there on a Monday night in June or July, though I might take it upon myself to drive down a day or two in advance.

Ok, stayed overnight last Saturday. Was impressed with the interpretive park and fort area. I honestly expected to only see traces if earthworks.
As for results, I didn't realize access to the fort from the camp wasn't part of the campsite fee. That's ok. Half suspected it and this trip was simply preliminary. I probably could've wandered onto the fort past hours but I felt that would be disrespectful and outa line. Got an email address and was assured an overnight investigation actually in the fort would be no problem this summer. We tried some investigating in the campsite.
Question; is there a trucking company or huge microwave antenna near there anyplace? Our electromagnetic field detector maxed out intermittently all night for no apparent reason. Sometimes radio transmissions from nearby can cause a little spike, but these were off the charts, higher than I have ever experienced in the wilderness before. Ironically, it occurred at the very end of the confederate "Dixie" song I played (3 times) Never during the "Hymn of the Republic." I thought maybe some transmissions from river barges nearby, but still, the spikes seemed too strong. Not near enough to say conclusively that the place is haunted, I spoke to a person in the museum who claimed that all investigators report EMF readings all over the area. There is no reason (thus far that I can find) for the meter to pick up even a low reading. I have been in high voltage areas and buildings and got little to no readings unless i am next to a fuse box or something. These were off the chart.
