My 14 year old son has started to take a good interest into the whole civil war period. He is also learning ( and getting decent at ) playing a period minstrel banjo. He expressed interest in marching and maybe strumming a few songs, in the parade.

I was wondering if there were any federal units ( family friendly ) who wouldn’t mind him tagging along , and me also. I plan on breaking out my Col. Strong Vincent impression. My conventional reenacting days are behind me and now I focus more on living history programs. My girlfriend also has started gaining an interest in the period also and may want to walk in the parade. I want to encourage their interest and enthusiasm if possible.

Thanks in advance for your inputs and consideration.

Thanks, we'll be able to be there!
Rememberance day is a special day. Seeing everyone dressed, the unique dedications units do at their monuments. Really is moving. Usually too, a brass band ( Federal City Brass Band?) plays some tunes on Little Round top before sunset. That is worth it to see, hoping they will do it again this year since the park plans on closing off Little Round Top for an undetermined length of time for rehabilitation.

3rdBrigade, you could probably just show up and go to where the reenactors are and simply ask if you, your son and your girl friend could fall in with them. Most likely they'll put you in line somewhere. If you come as Col. Strong Vincent, they might have you march in a special place as opposed to their regular line of march. I don't know. I'm involved with the Sons of Veterans' Reserve who runs the parade and we only coordinate the front part of the parade. The reenactors coordinate their own part.

I've been there many, many times over the three decades! Covid caused a major burp, as did the threats a few years back, that brought feds into town to protect from bad actors.

On this most sacred time of the year for GB, occurred on 11/19 (not the day of the parade), with the ceremony in the cemetery, with the speaker being Ken Burns that year (think it was around 2004, or so).
