Is There a Master List of (Known) Gettysburg Casualties?

Discharged for disability does not necessarily mean some kind of wound or injury. Men were often discharged for being too ill to serve. They could reenlist when they recovered but, for the time being, their enlistment was over.

I'm guessing that your guy was too sick to be in the field and was discharged.

Probably. it's interesting that he was discharged the day his enlistment was up. They seem to have kept him on until then.

I wonder if that had something to do with his pension. Would his disability discharge change how much he received rather than just his enlistment ending? I don't know enough about the Federal pension system to answer my own question.

Probably not. But there may be something on his entry in the Veterans' Schedule if applicable). Take a not of the number of his entry and then slide down to the bottom half of the page. If he spent anytime in one of the soldiers' homes, there should be a description on his form (and those are on Ancestry).
