while doing research on the regiment I found a story written in the ‘Fort Smith New Era’ dated October 8th 1863. The article is as follows :
“The first of this month was a happy day for the ladies and other citizens of Van Buren. The ladies of that place made and presented to the 1st Reg't Ark. Infantry, a large Federal flag, which was elevated to the top of a fine and substantial flag-staff occupying the front yard of the Court House.”
You can read the full article here https://scholarworks.uttyler.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1043&context=cw_newstitles
I am wondering if anyone has any more information about this flag like what it looked like.
I know it survived the Camden expedition but it’s history after that seems to be lost. I doubt it still survives
