Reading Craig Symonds' Stonewall of the West, he claims Cleburne was in defacto command on the battlefield at Richmond, August 29th and 30th of 1862. However, I've heard in another thread attributing the battle's results to Kirby Smith. I will admit, I need to get some books on the Heartland Offensive. But anyways: was Kirby Smith commanding in the field at Richmond, or was Cleburne handling everything?
