The day was hot but fun in Galena IL with lots of energy for the battle. The pictures also include a "surgery" and "embalming" of a wounded soldier who purchased embalming in advance. Note the giant piece of shrapnel. Poor guy didn't make it. The good doctor sticks his finger right in the wound. The embalmer puts a tube under the clavicle to put in the embalming fluid, one near the pelvis to let out the blood and one in the stomach to let out the gas that accumulates. The fellow will then be shipped home to his loved ones. It was a fun time. Tons of scout troops attended.

I've been to Galena multiple times, usually every fall as driftless area I do beautiful that time of the year. May try to make event if have nothing going on. As a spectator and diner at the market house and Green Street Tavern at the DeSoto House. :D

Think ill probably go, part of my 3 vacations in a month and half. Though two are mini weekend vacations.
Stop by and see us. My unit is the Second Kentucky. I'll be there with my son and grandson. Right now I am portraying a female, but they said I can learn the cannon so I may switch over to a male impression.

Well it's pouring today but it's supposed to be a hot sunny day tomorrow for Galena. Stop and see us if you make it out. I'll be sure to post photos!

I missed seeing this post last year. I loved visiting Galena a few years ago. The Belle Aire Mansion Bed and Breakfast was a wonderful place to stay ("Ruthie's Room").

Enjoy the weekend! I look forward to new photos.

Originally had thought of swinging by today, but decided to wait till tomorrow, saw alot of standing water on drive up, hope it's not muddy swampy mess.
We won't be there until tomorrow. I had to work today and two nights in the tent with my son and grandson are too much. I wish I had my soldier impression figured out because dragging a long dress through the mud won't be much fun. It will certainly be an authentic experience though. Come over and say "hey" at the Second Kentucky Company D. I am portraying a nurse.

Was a beautiful day at Galena, met Kathy, always nice to see members of our online family.

Sadly I have to report the rebs were rather heavily outnumbered and unsuccessful in their attempt to drive the Yankees into Wisconsin.

Thanks for coming out, it was nice to meet you too. Unfortunately we didn't do any better on Sunday. Photos to come!
