After some 18 months of its development, I would like to ask the members of the Gettysburg forum to please take a look at a new website:

https://battleofgettysburgcyclorama.com/

And then please let me know if you have any comments, corrections, or suggestions. You can post your comments here, or, if you wish to direct a comment to me personally, you can use the comments form on the site's "About" page.

Since the entire site contains some 9,000 words, you may wish to review only the section(s) which seem most interesting to you.

I wish to thank Sgt. "Gettysburg Greg," a forum member who has assisted me with some queries since last fall.

Next Monday, 6/21, I'm going to open the site to search engines, and publicize it on social media in time for the anniversary of the Battle next month.

Thanks in advance to any of you who may offer your assistance.

Just a little something to enliven your thread - sorry for the poor quality of some of the photos. (These were from a visit in 2016.)
Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your fine website!

I would change the "About" button on the homepage to say "About this website." I clicked on it thinking it would give information on either the venue or the painting, but I was wrong. I would also put a "Contact" link on the front page or on the toolbar instead of on the "About" page. I also found the scrolling down to see the different sections on the first page kind of disconcerting, and didn't realize that there was more than one section for quite a while. It looks spectacular, though, and I can see that a lot of work went into it!

Thank you very much for your comments and suggestions, which I will certainly consider.

This is incredible. Absolutely incredible. One thing I remember learning about the cyclorama is that, while they went to great pains to accurately depict the landscape, the actual uniforms and accouterments of the soldiers can be rather dubious. It's a weird miso-mash of American and European. The haystacks are also done in the European rather than American style.

Anyways I love this site you made!

Thanks so much, Zack. I had forgotten to mention the haystacks. Thanks for reminding me; I'll add that bit somewhere in the text.

I've made the change to "About This Site," as you suggested. Thanks!

Wow! What an impressive achievement! Thank you for doing this--it's going to be a essential resource on this valuable historical artifact for years to come.

It's clear an enormous amount of work, creativity, and attention to detail went into this. I especially like the information buttons on the painting--they really add a lot and make it much easier to locate and understand the key elements of the picture.

Also thanks also for the opportunity for a preview. I'm sure it will be well-received by educators, historians, the public at large, and Civil War enthusiasts worldwide. I'll be saving and sharing the link to the site far and wide!

I saw the painting itself a long time ago, and this brought back some special memories.

Once again, thank you for all your efforts and congratulations on a job extraordinarily well done!!

@AenghusOg I have spent many hours staring at that painting. In addition to calling up details on the battle it always reminds me of the great French battle artists of that era. I will enjoy this very much. Thank you!
