It's hard to believe any self-respecting photographer would've allowed Cadwallader to merely whip off his hat and be photographed, but that is obviously what happened!
 
The men who suceeded him as Commander-in-chief of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States reads like a Who's Who. Hancock, Sheridan, Hayes, Gibbon, Schofield, Dodge etc. to name a few.
