Does anybody know the real names of the eBay dealers calling themselves "Gettysburgechos" and "Generallee292" ? Their merchandise range from the fanciful to the fantastical, and I wondered if it was possible to meet these gentlemen at one of the Civil War shows.

I have reached out to Gettysburgechos to let them know they are very misleading in their item descriptions. The reply that came back was insulting and fairly abusive, so there is no conscience with this seller. They currently have an original IW kepi that they claim to be a Maryland kepi, problem, it has Wisconsin buttons and the manufacturer wasn’t in business during the ACW. They are also selling a Cav jacket and Overcoats as originals that are not even close.

Barry used to sell good quality material, but now ventures into the misleading as well. I recently reached out to tell him that his listed Civil War Zouave kepi was actually a French WW1 kepi and he replied that he would look into it. The kepi subsequently sold for over $400.

eBay doesn’t care as they get the premium on anything that sells. There are actually much worse sellers who put very authentic artificially stressed reproductions that sell for thousands.

Beware of secondhandcollectables, revwarcannonballs, shopwith_mk and civilwargeneralcuster007.

I got burned by generallee as well,,,wasn't worth the aggravation to fight it,,,but he sells some blatantly ginned up stuff,,,,candlestick holder used by Lincoln when he wrote the gettysburg address,, very first cannonball fired at fort sumter,,,Gen bufords binoculars he used from seminary ridge to spot confederate troops,, I made those up,,,but I'm not far off some of his historically amazing descriptions for plain Jane flea market stuff that he sells for hundreds of dollars based on his wildly imaginative descriptions

I’ve been keeping track of Gettysburgechoes recently as well ever since they recently listed a m1872 West Point cadet kepi but listed it as a Civil War cadet kepi. The maker of the kepi, H.V. Allien was not in business until 1877 and I messaged the seller with that information but I’m sure that was just a waste of my time.
