So this Saturday, I came across a Zimmerman defarbed m1861 Springfield for $900. It's in excellent condition, you might think it's new if not for the defarb work, and a single noticeable scratch on the barrel, near the tang screw. The bore was absolutely IMMACULATE(although dirty now, thanks to me firing some blanks earlier lol) I figured, it's $100 less than a new Armi Sport, and it has the defarb work, a bayonet that fits, and a sling, so it's a good deal. I bought it. However neither the dealer, nor I have any idea if it's an AS or Pedersoli, since the stamp was removed. Is there any way to tell or find this information out?

I have the S/N. I didn't see any other marks, other than "09" painted in the stock, under the barrel, behind the butt plate, and under the lock. Not sure that means anything other than a possible year of manufacture?

How would I go about looking up the serial number? (Also I'll get pics for you guys later on.)

The serial number is not going to tell you who manufactured the reproduction, it is just the manufacturers method for keeping track of their own production. If you can post a picture, any of us could probably tell you in an instant. For example, is the lockplate flush with the stock mortise (that's Armi Sport), or is there a visible raised edge around the lock mortise like an original? That would be EoA or Pedersoli. Pedersoli bought the EoA tooling, so aside from the American walnut wood used in the gunstock, the other parts are identical.
