What we think of as an obituary is pretty modern. I've seen all sorts of things in old newspapers. My favorites are the ones that include a lengthy write up about the person's character but have no details whatsoever - no family names, no death info, no life story. But I guess it's nice to know they were a kind and decent god-fearing Christian.
 
During the War he was a consultant to Lincoln regarding the Booklyn Navy Yard and financial issues. The town where he served as mayor, Williamsburg, back in the 50s merged with Brooklyn.
