I referred to this book in my "New Recruits" introductory post. It was lonaed to by a new friend. He is a Vietnam Vet. Battling another war within his own body wit Cancer. He is a hero in my book. He loan me this book along with a few others. And started reading it became fascinated with the story of Keith and Melinda who also was referred to as Sam Blalock, and Zebulon Baird.
It sparked my interest in the civil war and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

No I have not. I may put it on the summer list though. I should be finished with the books I am reading for the kids by then.
I see you. I am currently on book 3 of an 8 book series (all around 1k pages). This is such an easy pleasent read, that it's a good one to read in between a long series. I see it as changing the channel for a bit.
And kudos to you, reading to your kids.
Cheers

Shelby Foote wrote fiction, or do I hear a subtle expression?
Lubliner.
Yes, Shiloh is considered a novel. He created fictional characters... but stated he used actual events. He did not change anything about the battle or facts pertaining to the generals. Foote said that he even used the exact quotes from generals and did not modify anything. Basically just inserted his fictional characters into the battle. It's a great read.

Thanks, I think that will be my next break in the series I am reading. Need to change the channel for a bit.
Cheers.

I didn't know that Sharon McCrumb had written an historical novel about the Blalocks -- theirs is quite a story, and McCrumb is known as a very good NC writer!
