I was born in New York City but was orphaned at an early age. in the 1850's, I rode the "orphan train" to Indiana, where I was taken in by a farmer living near Noblesville. In 1862, I joined the 75th Indiana.

After the war, I engaged in banking and politics, eventually becoming the governor of a state. I died in 1918.

Question #1: Who am I?
Question #2: In which state was I governor?
