Thanks again to @Story for last week's installment of Throwback Thursday! In February my memories always turn back to that memorable day in 1989 when I received the call to come to Savannah, GA to begin work on Glory - here in a poor-quality but previously unposted photo I'm standing at left with my friend Joseph Covais somewhere on set. (Joe's manufacturing company New Columbia provided all the uniforms for the principal actors and he worked throughout the production as a member of Dale Fetzer's staff and usually appears in scenes as a company officer of the 54th Mass.) Like this year, there occurred in our first few weeks of filming an unseasonable (for coastal Georgia) cold snap that produced a snowfall for the first time in three years! Below, arriving on set on a very cold and uncomfortable morning at the head of the background company with First Sergeant Bob Johnson to my left:

Anyone else having (preferably) old Civil War-related photos, mementoes, or memorabilia from reenactments, living history or other events or vacation or other travel they would like to share is welcome and encouraged to do so in this weekly thread!

Oh cool - I have to be out early tomorrow, so here we go.

This is what you Rebs look like.
Oh, would some Power give us the gift
To see ourselves as others see us!
It would from many a blunder free us,
And foolish notion:
What airs in dress and gait would leave us,
And even devotion!

ETA: I just noticed this - look at the field in the center, just below the horizon.
The Regiment(s) there give you a sense of scale to this event (whichever one it was).
Also, I think that's a line of Skimishers in the cornfield, just above the near Company.

It was my pleasure to have the means and material to step into the gap.

Have you ever written up your collected recollections of working on Glory? I'd think that'd be a good thread/blog/article read.

Are we doing "Throwback Thursday" on Wednesday now?
Since I do my "computing" at my local library I can't always be sure of being in place (or remembering!) when Thursday rolls around. Also, I HOPE @ami will see and remember herself to feature them on the homepage at appropriate times - on Thursdays instead of later - so figure the "extra" day might help.:D

it very much helps me! :D I appreciate it!

I always liked the accidental composition of this one.
Tall-and-Skinny's expression seems to echo "what do we do now?" across the gulf of time.

It looks like the rifle to his immediate left has been wrapped with a handkerchief, no doubt to keep its owner from getting burned by the HOT barrel.

I can't believe that anyone here hasn't been proselytized yet to see this! (Don't make the mistake of ONLY looking at the OP - my account runs throughout the entire thread and you have to scroll through every page to find it all.)

Here's another related one:

Here's another related one:

1) From 2014, before I was invested in this forum.
2) I'll repeat myself - your well-told accounts should be gathered and presented verbatim en masse, perhaps as a magazine article.

I use to wear an old blue cotton t-shirt torn into a rectangular scarf as a neck protector and frequently repurposed it for the exact same reason.

No -- a book! With photos! And James N. be sure to include that one taken at the Wayside Inn in Massachusetts. I don't remember why you were there but I remember the photo.

Thanks for the compliment! Longfellow's Wayside Inn is my absolute favorite place in the Boston Area and I have stayed there on at least two occasions while visiting nearby Lexington, Concord, and other Revolutionary sites. For additional photos of it refer to my thread:
