Hi everyone, wanted to see if there was any way someone could trace this Spencer rifle I got in a lot? Here is the top serial number on it. I believe it to be an unaltered 1860.

Thanks!

Would love to see some photos of the whole carbine to include the makers marks on top of the receiver. While you do that I will check the SRS and see if its listed

I have several civil war firearms that I would love to be able to tie to a particular regi or company, etc! I am really anxious to find out how you went about identifying those particular serial numbers to the cavalry units. I would really appreciate any advice you could give me!

The OOP Springfield Research Service books. Vols. 2, 3 & 4 have Spencer SN data. Copies can be found from time to time on Ebay and elsewhere. Google the title and you will find much information. Some libraries also have sets. At one time online access was available but I know little about that.
