So a couple weeks ago I got posession of a lot of civil war era items, I do collect alot of antique items but this is the first time it being war items I'll post pictures throughout the week but I have no way of authenticating anything due to where I'm located, I would love to learn more about what I have whether they are authentic or replicas. I'm curious to expand my knowledge a bit. Thankyou for anyone that replies to this thread.

Hello @Nickpaiva and welcome to CivilWarTalk - the best place on the internet for Civil War discussion. We are very happy to have you aboard. Since it's a late hour, many of the experts who can help you with identifying your items, have already gone to bed. But don't worry -- they will see your post tomorrow and weigh in.

I'm pretty sure that I read the word "Pietta" in one of those pictures, You'll not find that on real Civil War handguns.
Yes I'm looking up that they make replicas so the colt is definitely a replica but do they also make the engraved casing for the bullets? This is not my expertise at all.

I'm hoping some expert on the topic will reply to this thread. I don't now or have ever have owned a Pietta....yet. I do own a replica made by a different Italian company and I really couldn't say if they make engraved casings or not.I don't think there are any casings for a true cap and ball revolver unless it's a "convertible". That's if we are referring to the brass cartridges.

It looks like one of the early (well regarded by some shooters if I recall correctly) Pietta replicas from the beginning of their production in the 1960s or 1970s. I’m not quite clear on wether this series of photos shows one or two pistols? Either way, it’s a Model 1860 Colt revolver. Modern replicas are worth around $200, older replicas I will have to research more. Since it’s a replica, it’s a great way to get into black powder shooting if that’s the kind of thing you would find interesting.

The little powder flask could very well be a 19th century item though, the hunting dog motif was a popular one for civilian powder flasks.

Yes it one pistol just looks like the parts are mismatched but I could be totally wrong, I have a secondary bullet cartridge for it that has no markings or engraving that looks to be what normally goes on the pistol, the current cartridge has the engraving and colt patent.

What caliber is this? I have a vague memory of seeing a single-shot .22 made to look like a M1860 Colt. That was back in the early 1960s so my memory might be a bit off.

If you don't mind may I send a picture of that powder flask to a friend of mine. He has a book on flasks and was a big help to me early last year when I came into possession of a similar one. Mine was just a reproduction but still worth sbout $80.00-$90.00.

Absolutely

The more I look into this box of items I believe these are all items for reenactments. With a select few items that are dated to the year but the big items are seeming to be reenactments
Could be from a reenactor or there are a lot of folks that like live shooting black powder like the North South Skirmish Association. What else is in the box?
