I could use a bit more practice. Depending what figure I used some turned out fair and other not so good. Left is 4th Michigan Infantry and right is 1st Michigan Three Month Infantry.

Nicely done ! Some look like they are from Shenandoah Miniatures.

Great idea and the figures look excellent by my poor standards.

How did you discover which units wore grey uniforms and when they converted to blue?
I researched newspapers and other sources. There are photographs for the 3rd Michigan gray uniforms, 4th Michigan gray uniforms, and Michigan Camp of Instruction gray uniforms. There are also a few images of Michigan militia units in gray uniforms. I have a fair amount of information about early War Michigan issued uniforms.

Nice job Major Bill!
I applaud you for what you've done. I'm sure that many people who look at your figures are confused by the early war gray uniforms. Do you ever get tired of having to explain to them why they wore gray?

Blue or gray, most people just see Civil War figures.

I have given some thought about making some Michigan Militia at the start of the Civil War. Perhaps in the uniforms the militia companies wore as they arrived at the muster sites. The issue is that this would take considerable conversions and there are not too many figures that are good candidates for easy conversion in 1/32 scale.

Have you tried this company, looks like a good selection.

A couple of more.

The one on the right would need two hands to use that sword, but because it is soft plastic I have to live with an over sized sword. The soldier on the right is converted, bottom half of the body form one kit, upper body from another kit with details cut off and new details added, head from another kit, arms from two kits, rifle from another source, and bayonet scabbard add. His button are to large, but I had put smaller buttons on and did not like then and cut the buttons off. I was not going to cut these button off and try again.

A couple Confederate kits without conversions.

Note the trousers on the left figure do not look right, but I built the kit as it came.

Very nice. I enjoy seeing the more obscure uniforms. Soft plastic is very hard to deal with . I never understood why they didn't mold them in hard plastic like Historex did. The Republican Blues looks like it might be an Imrie Risley figure , but I don't remember that one. Thanks for sharing these and please keep posting other figures.

I think you are right about it being an Imrie Risley figure. A couple of years ago I stopped at the Toy Soldier shop in Detriot looking for uniform books the the shop had a large box of Imrie Risley they were getting rid of at have the list price. They were old and priced the same for 10-15 years so were a good deal at full price and at half price I should have pulled out my charge card and purchased a handful of them.
