Just finalized the transaction. Early part of 3000 piece 2nd "Kentucky" order in July,1864. Serial #10406 all matching, .46 rf long (46-40-300) with full stock. First order of 1000 pieces was .44 with half stock to "Kentucky". 30" barrel on both. All matching serial numbers with a period sling. The rear sight 100-250-500 is complete as most have the 500 part of long blade broken off and missing. Only real distraction is some pitting on left rear side of breech. Marking are weak which is normal as factory did not stamp them deeply. "Ballard: The Great American Single Shot Rifle" by John T Dutcher starts the 2nd order at 9296. George J. Layto's " A Guide to the Ballard Breechloader" starts at 9400 and Gun Digest starts at 10400.

My Ballard Kentucky full stock is serial # 9468.

The "H" on the cartridge is for what exactly, not for Henry is it.
The H is used on the bottom of Winchester rimfire cartridges as a reference the Henry rifle, the gun for which they first made cartridges. The Henry company that made Henry rifles and ammo eventually became Winchester. They used it on all calibers as a trademark. This is .46rf long (46-40-300) 46 being caliber, 40 being black powder amount and 300 being the weight of the bullet
