I've reached a point in my Civil War regimental project that I have started to run into some of the less dramatic / more obscure events that my subject was a part of. The following haven't received the Pfanz / Rhea treatment (and probably for good reason!), but I'm hoping for any and all recommendations. I'm looking for works that include citations and are holistic works, not focusing on individual units. I want to better familiarize myself with the big picture scope and write about how my unit fits into that. Much appreciated on any and all assistance.
  • Bristoe Campaign (Including the Union embarrassment at Buckland Mills)
  • Mine Run
  • Morton's Ford
  • The Hicksford Raid

Jeffrey Hunt is working on a great set of books that look at the post Gettysburg Campaigns of Bristoe Station and Mine Run. He has three of the vice volumes finished so far - Meade and Lee After Gettysburg; Meade and Lee at Rappahannock Station; and, Meade and Lee at Bristoe Station. You might also want to check out Tighe's The Bristoe Campaign.

@Michael C. Hardy beat me to it. I highly recommend Hunt's summer-fall 1863 books. I'd also recommend Bradley M. Gottfried's The Maps of the Bristoe Station and Mine Run Campaigns atlas.

The map book is great. Not sure why I did not mention it as they are next to each other on my shelf...

George Skoch and Martin Graham did a book on the Mine Run Campaign as part of the HE Howard Regimental series that while dated is good; in the same series is William Henderson's "The Road to Bristoe Station."

Both of these battles recently received treatment in the Emerging Civil War series also, but I don't have those titles handy.

Not a lot on the Hicksford Raid, which deserves study. Peter Carmichael has been lecturing on it lately. Lots of good source material on it, though nearly all of it from the Union side
