I talked with the Mayor Todd Young, and he informed me that the re-enactment had been cancelled. He was kind enough to point me
me in the right direction for the Civil War monuments in the city. He also suggested that I talk with Penny at the Museum.
She was very helpful. The Museum also has 5 short films about Saltville and it's history.

Saltville, VA...downtown
Much of the CSA salt was produced here and shipped via both wagon and rail spur to the VT Railroad. Also remaining are several original earthworks, cannon emplacements and earthen forts along with a swell overlook of the battlefield at Broady Bottom.

The first Battle of Saltville in early October 1864 ended with the Federals being driven from the field...the second, on December 20, 1864 ended with the Saltworks badly burned, clogged and temporarily disabled.

It is worth your time to visit this tucked away town...I live about 10 minutes away and lead tours frequently...have for 25 years.

Is the museum worth a visit in general? It's on my list of probable visits when I vacation in the area.
Yes it is because it details not only the WBTS...also the pre historic era...WW 1 and 2 defense industry...and one of the largest salt making plants in the country, complete with a Kosher salt division. Chances are of you ate something yesterday, the salt was drawn up here.
