Now only if someone would make my The Last Week series, about April 1-9, 1865 and the last days of the Army of Northern Virginia. It's a movie/series I have plotted out in my mind for the past 15 years.

Well at least their painting him as the lunatic so many believed him to be.

This might be an interesting watch, even if some of it doesn't look historically accurate in some aspects. I wanna watch it!

Looks good. He has been painted by many during and after his life as a nutcase so looks to be an interesting show. The performance by Ethan Hawke should make for good TV. The historical accuracy will also make for lively debate when it airs in the fall.

I'm in!!! Granted it's only a trailer, but it looks like it's attempting to be as accurate as possible and has style and entertainment value as well. Just the sort of thing that, if done correctly and popular enough, can increase interest in the Civil War.

Pore John Brown he tried to free people and divide the nation before it was divided by Lincoln, but ended up being hanged by his own Government.

He reminds me of Nat Turner.

Isn't that the one that was going to be a Civil War Band of Brothers? If it's the same one I'm thinking of, last I heard they weren't able to get funding and kept being forced to push back production.

Yes they said that Grant because it got high ratings he may be able to produce the show now because of that.

You're in charge of the watch party!!! :smile coffee::bounce::D

Maybe... I honestly don't know if I got Showtime!

This show looks wrong as can be history wise, but its story seemingly built around a crazier-than-in-real-life version of a John Brown, and Fredrick Douglas's line about him, I could watch it. For history it'll be pure trash, for entertainment it might be good.

After Rebel Born, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer, and God only knows how many other films and ones coming in the future outright butchering history to paint Southerners in as bad a light as possible, its only fair a movie going overboard on John Brown is put out. Even if this nutty version is the good guy. (Which says a lot about where our society is today....)

I get the impression that this miniseries and the novel it was based on is similar to the novel/film Little Big Man. Instead of Custer from the point of view of a white man raised by Native Americans, it is John Brown from the perspective of a slave.

I love Ethan Hawke.
I have the book, haven't read it yet.
Guess, I'll need to bump it up on my list of ones to get to sooner rather than later.

"The Good Lord Bird” - the Ethan Hawke TV show that filmed in Virginia for over six months last year - is finally ready to make its debut Sunday, Oct. 4, on Showtime. The limited eight-part series tells the story of John Brown, the famous abolitionist and religious zealot whose failed raid on Harpers Ferry helped spur the Civil War.
