June 6 is not only the date for D-Day, the last significant engagement in Arkansas occurred on this date in 1864. The following link will take you to an article on the engagement. Iowa troops from the 14th, 27th, 32nd and 35th Infantries were involved.

As one with an ancestor at Clarendon, Arkansas, June 25-29, one could discuss the phrase 'last significant'. Only tinclad sunk by the Confederates on June 24 is significant.

There is a lot about the campaigns in Arkansas that I don't know about. This battle happened close to the time when Brig General George M. Holt, the commander of the Arkansas militia, was pursued and killed. This happened only 130 miles away at Benton. This action resulted in Medal of Honor given to Private George Lucas, Company C, 3d Missouri Cavalry. I always wanted to piece together how this event happened. Was it related to a battle or a sudden raid on Benton?

George Lucas (interesting name, eh?)
