Big money has ruined Major League Baseball and many of the other sports I used to enjoy watching. Thanks for posting this article, I grew up watching and playing lots of baseball in the 1970s and 1980s. My father loves the game, it was almost a religious experience for him being a pitcher for his high school, air force base in the service and even a year of low minor league baseball. He imparted his love for the game to me and my brothers and we still enjoy it to this day.

As someone told my brother (a forever Red Sox fan) - the Red Sox haven’t lost a game this season and the Yankees haven’t won one.

An interesting story of the first curve ball and how it came about (from clam shells to curve balls) - -

I’m glad during the war years they could take time and have some fun in the pictures - the fans look like outfielders even one guy is sitting in a chair.

I agree big money has ruined sports. A man used to be able to take his entire family to games. Now he can't even afford to go himself.

Minor League baseball as well as the independent leagues are a lot better. The fans are closer to the action, ticket prices are less expensive and the pace of every game is faster. Even summer college baseball leagues are a lot more interesting. And also the independent leagues too

I was at a minor league game in Greenville ,SC and it was a fantastic night for only eight bucks in. The atmosphere was amazing with a fantastic view of the field and they even had fireworks after. The majors are suffering from the same problem most major sports have as they pay out huge salaries to it big stars. This is always kicked down to the fans who pay big money into games then have to pay a high cost for food and drink inside.

I grew up worshiping the Mick, Bullet Bob, Sandy, Yaz, Ernie, Whitey and the Splinter! Played from Little League, Pony League, High School and College. Love attending Ole Miss and SEC baseball. I care little for the Majors but enjoy the Minors.

Too much money and acclamation for men and boys who can’t handle either!
Regards
David

Before you go slapping too hard, treat yourself to a review of "Let's Play OOTP", on youtube. There are numerous examples for anyone that really cannot leave the sport alone.

I don't watch much baseball... but money is the driving force nowadays.... not the passion for the sport. The dollar has taken over most sports. Even the UFC, which was a bunch of brawlers when it first started, now has fighters arguing over who's getting paid more, etc, etc. Ever since baseball went on strike years ago, I never went back to it.

And of course Abner Doubleday did not invent or establish the rules of baseball at Cooperstown in 1839. Baseball has no significant point of origin.

I’d say rounders and or cricket were the main inspiration behind baseball. As for this year it’s not looking good, they have a schedule out but if one team get an outbreak it could shut the league down. Looking forward to the Yankees v Nationals on the 23rd.

Flour Field is an absolute gem. Love the atmosphere.

Great to have the MLB back , watching the Yankees v Nationals. It’s strange with no fans in the ballpark but with this crazy year it’s best to take anything you can get.

It's a great game. I have downloaded almost version of it. It's cool to be the manager of a team in the current season or you can be the manager or general manager of a team in years past. I've played the historic mode a number of times, playing the manager or general manager of the Yankees in the 1920s or the 1960s, in 1977 and 1996 as well as the Mets, Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds in the 70s. As a general manager you can make trades, sign free agents and draft players. In addition to be managing in the major leagues, the game also allows you to manage in the minor leagues and the independent baseball leagues as well as baseball leagues in other countries.

In the new versions of the game the last few years, playing as the manager you can cast votes for players to be selected to both All-Star teams and voting players into the Hall of Fame

I have not gotten it yet. My big concern is whether I can play off line. I bought one game, the AEGOD Civil War II and tried it offline, until it blanked out by default, so I updated it and it give me a French Posting that says my numbers are invalid, or something similar. I have not gone to their forum to uncover the secret behind forbidden entry, and probably won't. I would rather play baseball.
