The Kepi and Forgotten History

So kepi is pronounced "kay-pee" rather than "keh-pee" eh?

Before I make the change I'd like to know who else has been, or will from now on, go with "kay-pee"

That is the French pronunciation; in French, very few words survive Americanization, not to mention that he somewhat exaggerates the fist syllable. He does the same thing with shako.
