Folks, are you looking for a refreshing skin care regimen? Ladies, are you worried about the dyes in your cosmetics? If so, I may have found a solution for you. Do you have access to some snow? If you do, then this snow cleanse may be for you! Of course, hypothermia may also be in store for you.

"Many people who have not fairly tried it know not the value of snow for washing the face and hands. It is a genuine cosmetic prepared by Madame Nature without a particle of any poisonous vegetable, and offered to the public more from benevolence than any pecuniary motives, and particularly designed for the relief of all who are afflicted with an ugly skin. Try in the next light snow that falls. First rub the hands with a piece of bar soap till a sufficient quantity adheres, and then taking up a little snow, rub the hands with the snow and soap until the water drops so pure as not to stain the snow where it falls. Then proceed to the face, and if it does not procure the pure blush of health, you may rest assured there is nothing in the apothecary’s shop… that will do it."

New England Farmer and Gardener’s Journal, 1837

Okay, who wants to give this a try and report back to us? @NH Civil War Gal , @Zella , @luinrina , @lelliott19 , @AshleyMel , @DBF , @John Winn , @captaindrew , @Wallyfish , @Tom Hughes , @Mike Serpa ? Anyone else?

I once got hit in the face with a snowball, I say snowball it was more of a hand grenade made of ice, my face definitely changed to a nice colour of red but unfortunately that was blood from my busted nose. If it’s all the same to you I’ll give the old snow bath a miss.

I’ve had snow washes before as a kid..mostly after falling off the sled! I have to laugh about the Yooper comment. We vacation In Machinac every summer, and you can tell the “native” population by the fact that they are in the water frolicking and we are still trying to inch past our ankles! That water is cold!! Especially along the beach where there are cold springs...brrrr!

Are you referring to Mackinac Island? We met someone from the Mackinac area over the holidays and it sounds like a lovely place. We may be visiting there this summer through business.

My folks have a summer cottage near Mackinac City. It’s on Paradise Lake in the town on Carp Lake. Which is blink and you miss it. There’s a diner, a marina, and a post office. Used to be a General Store, but it burned down this fall.
