You don't advertise a Civil War trilogy at the end of Gods and Generals and NOT make a third movie! I am a die hard Gettysburg addict and I loved Gods and Generals as well. Where in the HECK is the Last Full Measure?

And let me guess, because of pc, and anti confederate viewpoints it will never be made. Shame.

That, is my rant for the day.

Edit: And they lost money on G&G. Why? I loved it!

It's not just some conspiracy against Confederates. You can see from Wikipedia it had a $56 million budget and only made $12 million at the box office. That's a $44 million loss. Of course no one wants to finance a sequel and studios are scared of making Civil War movies in general now.

I likewise wish they would make more Civil War movies but I think the only option is to move away from movies like Gods & Generals which I personally think is a terribly boring and badly structured movie regardless of political stance (aside from some genuinely cool battle sequences). They should stop with the huge biopics and make something about common soldiers, like a Civil War Saving Private Ryan kind of thing.

I think it had more to do with G&G being a terrible movie and losing a ton of money. It's hard to throw more money after bad money.

I was a second unit extra in both motion pictures. That was the best thing about each one, for me that is. G's and G's was downright lousy. I saw Maxwell during the filming all the time. Always on the set. He looked a little more exasperated filming the second movie. Or maybe he was just having a couple bad days back to back. Losing all that $ was a real no bueno. I took my son to see G's and G's with me and he wanted to leave at the intermission. "Dad this this movie !@#$%, let's go." To which I retorted, "Not till the scenes that I was in show up." Of course that was well into the second part during the battle of Chancellorsville. Have another box of Milk Duds, son....he was glad when it was over and we were on our way out.

It lost money due to its length and quality. Over 3 hours is a death wish financially

You do if you had every intention of filming it, had investors lined up, studios and distributors giving the green light, and then your main work to roll it out bombs spectacularly at the box office and back then DVD sales were a miserable failure.

A disaster like G&G will kill any potential sequels after so much money spent and wanting another go. A lot of times smaller studios don't survive such epic disasters...

G&G had some good moments, mainly the battle scenes, but the rest to the average movie goer is horribly, horribly boring. Its that boring to most CW buffs as well. The movie had great promise, but with such a horrible script, and horrible dialog, it didn't stand a chance.

A three hour runtime doesn't necessarily kill a film, look at that fantasy Avatar drivel, you just better make sure those three hours entertain the audience from start to finish. If not, then its outright suicide by the filmmaker/studio.

I agree I liked the movie. And Bud Robertson just died, he put a lot of spirit into that movie. The movie, while not a success perhaps in terms of "$" and modern Hollywood criteria, will live long with those of us who love history and the CW. I too hope they make LFM. Ted Turner is not well and we have to hope that some other money man can step up. But even in 2004, it was against the grain to make G &G, so even in these times, I think it can be done. Who cares what the "anti" crowd thinks, there are a lot more of us "silent majority" people out there than is thought.

Hollywood doesn't hate Confederates. Hollywood hates losing $40 million. How dare they.

Hollywood made some money with The Beguiled and I think the film industry will eventually give a Civil War movie another go. However, they need a bigger success that would make them feel comfortable with risking a lot of money for production.

I do think that we'll get something eventually. I think it'll be a Union focused piece(absolutely nothing wrong with that), and perhaps not a war movie per say, but something more like GWTW, where the war is a backdrop to what's happening on the home front.

Heck, a good Southern Belle meets a wounded Yankee officer after a battle, nurses him to health, and falls in love despite her strong Southern convictions, and risks everything just to be with him... sounds like a good Hallmark movie if I ever saw one.

In today's day and age, and considering how close we are to the hundredth anniversary, I think its safe to say we'll have a remake of Gone with the Wind by 2040.

I can't wait to see how badly they screw it up.

Just my humble opinion but if you want to see a Gettysburg mini-series or movie that attracts an audience then follow the same principles as Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan, give us ‘the ‘audience’ characters that we can identify with, put us in a position where we experience a wide range of emotions, fire our imagination so that we want to learn more. I mean, who didn’t identify with with private Upham and his loss of innocence!

The movie audience of today are a far more discerning bunch than they were even 10 years ago, perhaps we’ve become desensitised to blood, gore and horror but the truth is, war is a nasty and vicious business, perhaps it’s time to show us the horror of war, take us back in time to Gettysburg and don’t sugarcoat it, I’m not talking about gratuitous violence nobody wants to see that but it would really help to see a movie about the civil war that didn’t gloss over the reality, hardship and horrors of war.
Okay, I’m not an American but your civil war is your history, it happened and it shaped a nation, every time a lame movie is made I think it does a massive disservice to the American people. You’d think that someone somewhere would want to tell an accurate story of those young men and their families, warts and all.
Before I end my rant, I think it’s worth saying that I think Gettysburg is an awesome movie but it’s definitely lacking something, time for a remake perhaps!

Oh by the way, when you saw the bleeped out asterisks symbols, that wasn't the stronger word, that was d---, not what you were thinking, just to be clear.

Some of the most popular, sympathetic, heroic, "good-guy" characters of both movies were Confederates! G&G, in particular was an idolatrous paen to Stonewall Jackson! How does that suggest they "Hate Confederates?"

This is just more paranoid balderdash.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that the makers of G&G hate Confederates, rather that a pro-Confederate slant may not go over well with other Hollywood types - or a share of the public.

Ultimately as others have said the main issue is audience #s and $s.
