Formerly known as the Civil War Naval Museum when it was in a different location along I-20 adjacent to one of Vicksburg's many motels, this institution has renamed itself for its current location inside Vicksburg's ca. 1900 railroad station along the riverfront. It still contains many wonderful ship models like these cutaways showing the ironclad ram CSS Arkansas above and the gunboat USS Cairo below.

Although there are literally hundreds of models of all kinds on display, many of them postwar including aircraft as well as ships - and one lone Tiger tank! - the centerpiece of the museum is the huge model/diorama showing the siegeworks. Most of the figures appear to be British Airfix Union and Confederate infantry and artillery along with other 25mm wargame figures of unknown manufacture deployed on terrain that includes the most salient of salients, while skimping on less well-known stretches of the lines.

Note the "caves" dug into the hillside of the ravine above next to the wartime Shirley House, seen to better advantage below.

Below, a Union infantry regiment in correct four-man column frontage advances at the double-quick to support the assault:

How was this not on the itinerary? @archieclement had posted pictures of it, and I spent the whole weekend wondering when we'd come by it. Oh well, glad you took pictures of it, I'd love to hear from @ucvrelics whether the layout of the ground was right or not.
Think it was just a case of too many things, too little time, I got there Monday afternoon, toured tues-sun tho had to bail early sun so missed that, but got to go Natchez, Grand Gulf, Port Gibson and the additional downtown sites, But didn't have time for Champion Hill or McRaven house, Chickasaw Bluffs all worthwhile, but had seen before luckily.

Curious hadn't heard anyone mention it, but did anyone manage to fit McRaven house in?

I don't know about the layout, but I do know you could spend a month and not see everything CW related pertaining to the Vicksburg area, so we went with the big stuff. Plus it gives you a reason to come back.

@mkyzzzrdet and I stayed at both Cedar Grove (shell holes in parlor floor and front door, plus case shot embedded in parlor wall) and Duff Green House and toured nearby Anchuca but not McRaven.
