Hello all! My first post here, happy to be part of this group!

I recently purchased my first Civil War-period revolver, a fully and properly inspected Remington 1858 New Model Army. The gun has a matching serial number of 63,9XX range. I've looked all over but cannot determine the production and delivery date attached to this serial number.

Could someone help inform me a bit more as to when this revolver was produced and delivered for service?

Thanks so much!!!

Regards,
N

Thanks. What i am trying to narrow down is the approx month and year of delivery for that serial number. From what ive seen, i think it should be a late 1863 or early 1864 issue, but hoping someone has more definitive issue such as a contract listing etc.

additional help with .44 remington

Can anyone provide some further information as to when the model number above was produced and delivered? Thanks!!!

The book by Don Ware, Remington New Model Army and Navy Revolvers, may have serial number to year charts in it.

John McAulay's book Civil War Pistols shows the delivery dates and quantity of Remington revolvers to the gov't during the war. By knowing that the NM started at about serial number 15,000 you can do the math to get an approximate date on your serial number.
