I had recently took a day trip to see Monocacy Battlefield. I must say it was a great to see another one off my list to see.

My visit to Monocacy Battlefield in 2014 was one of the best Civil War experiences I ever had. First of all, it was not crowded like Gettysburg or Antietam. When I was there, I felt like the only person at the entire park. Second, the weather was perfect, cool and fogy, so that I practically expected a brigade from Gordon's division to emerge from the mist at any moment. Third, the visitor center is surprisingly well done for such a small battlefield, with an excellent animated map. And finally, the battlefield is so small that you can stand on the west river of the creek and essentially see the course of the entire battle.

The only drawback is that the battlefield is bisected by a major highway.

If you get to this one you should also drive (a half hour or so, maybe 45 min.) to Crampton's Gap. It is small so generally without crowds, and the view from the open fields on top of the Gap are great. You can see why the CSA, with a small force expecting to defend against light forces, were shocked to find the valley floor below lit up by the campfires of a very large force. When Lee received this news he ordered that the Gap be held at all costs, without regard for loss of life.

Beautiful photos! What is the significance of the red house?

well the red house is where the Confederates when around to try to flank the Union lines to where they came up behind the house (Worthington House). at the time the people was still in the house and a young boy was peaking thru the boarded up windows and recount of what he had saw.
