What is the purpose of this list? Is it the best written books on the CW? Is it the best sellers? By reading these you will have a complete picture of the war?

Whatever the purpose, the list is hardly balanced -- no books on the naval or blockade side, nothing on logistics, only ONE on the western theater, only ONE on a Union general.

-Lee’s Tarnished Lieutenant / William G Piston
-The Ordeal of the Union/ Allan Nevins ( esp. Volume 6: War Becomes Revolution)
- The Cause of All Nations/ Don H. Doyle
-Fast and Loose in Dixie/ J. Madison Drake

So it’s supposed to be “must have” books for your personal book collection. Now that list may vary from person to person.

I did actually compile my list from several “must read” lists I found on the Internet, but I wanted you to add your opinions because if books don’t actually belong in this list, or if important books are missing, I’m sure you all know!
