Fictional Ironclad (Model)

I found this contemporary account of her, by one of her sailors, in the book, "Centennial Celebration of the Confederate Victory":

"I served aboard the CSS Yankee Slayer in 1865. I was captain of the Number Five gun, "Dupont's Doom". Oh, the mischief we caused that day when we rammed the Wabash! Scratched our paint something awful. Gideon Wells himself was aboard her. Never did find his body. Them yankees hollered something terrible. Guess they didn't like cold water. Such a sight! Sank the Colorado too, with one broadside on our way in. Our 15" Brook Rifles were devilishly effective. Curious. I always thought oak floated. We were back in Charleston by four. The Mint Juleps flowed like rain. I proposed to Miss Aura Lee that evening. Her, I carried by boarding!"

Ahh, yes, that is true.

I was looking around for ironclad images and found something that looks very similar to the model design. It is a french Cerbere class battle ship of the 1860's - 1870's. My design was independantly designd, so I guess there is nothing new under the sun as they say. Interesting!

Interesting model. Your craftsmanship is a true talent. Whats your next project?

What id it had a more conventional hull below the waterline with a submerged deck like Virginia 1, and all we are seeing is the above water. Maybe something like these pictures? Sorry for the crudeness of the drawings. But you get the idea. This might support the armored belt and the 20 guns as the hull is full with at the waterline... just a thought. It would make her longer and with a deaper draft though.

I love the shape of the model. Great build!

Thanks for your observation. The design is one of those that makes you look back after finding more information, like the Cerebere class ship, and gets you rethinking. If I had known of the Cerebere type I would have made a pointed bow....I could just reshape it on the model....I'll think about that. I like your redsign, it makes sence The project was just an experimental design for fun any way.
