Thaddeus Lowe's Balloon @ Lincoln Days June 1 & 2, 2019

Fantastic picture @TSCLowe Thanks so much for sharing it. Very fine looking crew you have assembled. I especially like the two young assistants. The Professor is looking especially dapper and President Lincoln is looking very well too.

Once the gas starts flowing, about how long does it take to fill the balloon?

I think Prof. Lowe used hydrogen (?)....are you using hydrogen or just air for demonstration purposes?

During the Civil War it took about 4 hours to inflate a balloon with two portable hydrogen generators and the balloon could stay inflated a week and a half to two weeks at a time depending on weather and how much it was used.

While I can make a public demonstration using hydrogen in Europe 8 days a week I can’t say the word here in the U.S. without lawyers saying “Oh, Hell NO!” That said I use forced air to keep it inflated for show and tell only.

Great photos! The horses look in good trim as well. Yeah, I know, I notice the horses first!
