Fantastic picture @TSCLowe Thanks so much for sharing it. Very fine looking crew you have assembled. I especially like the two young assistants. The Professor is looking especially dapper and President Lincoln is looking very well too.
Thanks for giving us a chance to see one of the ascensions! We have fuzzy, frustratingly indistinct images from 150 years ago and it's always amazing to see this stuff in color and ' in the flesh '. There's a class trip for school kids!
During the Civil War it took about 4 hours to inflate a balloon with two portable hydrogen generators and the balloon could stay inflated a week and a half to two weeks at a time depending on weather and how much it was used.
While I can make a public demonstration using hydrogen in Europe 8 days a week I can’t say the word here in the U.S. without lawyers saying “Oh, Hell NO!” That said I use forced air to keep it inflated for show and tell only.
