While reading General John Buford a Military Biography by Edward G. Longacre tonight I read about the Battle of Brandy Station. Longacre seems to be a fan of Buford and praises him for his actions at Brandy Station. However, I am a bit sceptical.

Buford seems to have done a reasonable job at the Battle of Brandy Station, but I am not sure I would call it a great job. I was wondering if other historians give Buford as much credit as Longacre.

Bill, somehow I missed this. Please forgive me.

The problem is that Buford was kept on a leash by Pleasonton for most of the morning because Gregg and his command were four hours late getting to the battlefield.

I have written about Brandy at length in three different books. If they are of interest, please let me know, and I will see about getting you hooked up.

Bill. To be quite frank, I don't think Longacre's books can compare to the much better writing and scholarship of Eric Wittenberg's books, especially the biography of John Buford. David.

Mr. Wittenberg: Somehow I was not aware of the above mentioned book. I was under the impression I had them all. I will have to correct this oversight on my part, forthwith! But I would like you to know how much I enjoy each one.

Thank you for telling me that! I hope that you enjoy this one, too. As I said, it's one of my favorites of my own work.
