Non american non european arms question?

An interesting question. I've never seen any mention of arms coming from South America or Canada but if any did, I assume that they would have been manufactured in England, Belgium, or other European country.

I ask because i know there was a shortage of arms and equipment, so the emptied europe's arsenals of all there obsolete guns.

What about Mexico?

The Mexicans were engaged in their own civil war, and war against Napoleon III's Imperial French army forces during the French intervention of 1862-7. Consequently, both sides were net importers of foreign manufactured weapons. The exception was European trade, facilitated by Mexican interests, with the Confederates through Matamoros. Toward the end of our Civil War, the Lincoln administration began clandestinely supplying Benito Juarez's republican forces with non-attributable, surplus, foreign manufactured, military weapons so that they could better fight the French. Then, in 1865, the U.S. Army dispatched MG Sheridan with 50,000 troops, in three corps, to the Mexican border in a none too subtle hint to Napoleon that it was time to fold his tents and go home.
