When did New Ironsides loose its masts and yards?
I have read that the masts and yards were removed when the USS New Ironsides was on station and at those times she relied on steam propulsion only.

I have always thought New Ironsides was an excellent looking ship and that it was a shame she had such a short life. I think the gunports doors are a work of mechanical genius, in particular.
 
Sirs, on the photo in post #1, there appears to be a line of dots in the water below the vessel to the left. Mines? Mine Decoys?

FWIW This picture has been posted by me and others in other threads. Reportedly USS Montauk, and USS Lehigh in Philadelphia navy yard around the turn of the century.
