Greetings from the New Researching Your Civil War Ancestry Host

Hey, everybody,

I'm honored to be the new host of the forum. Genealogy is one of the reasons I got interested in the Civil War, and all the helpful folks on this forum have helped me immensely with my own family research.

I'm looking forward to reading everyone's questions and findings. I'm also hoping to start some more discussion-based threads about our Civil War ancestors on the forum.

Please let me know if there are any regular features you'd like to see or if you have any other suggestions for the forum.

Respectfully, Your Most Obedient Servant,

Forum Host
Well done Zella, enjoy your new role as a forum host.

Thanks so much, everyone. You're all very kind.

Unfortunately, I've had a family emergency and am going to be away from the CWT forums until probably next week. But please do carry on posting about genealogy, though! I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone's posts when things calm down for me.

Hopefully everyone is well, but congratulations. I have just begun to research my families history and I can say it’s not easy, extremely fun and exciting but definitely not easy.

Thank you. Unfortunately, it's not had a good resolution. :frown:

But I'm glad to hear you're starting genealogy. It's very rewarding, and definitely feel free to post on here on anything that stumps you. The community of genealogists here is very skilled and has helped me immensely.

Zella. Congratulations on your new assignment. I think you are very deserving of such an honor and would make an absolutely awesome host. By the way, my family has a very interesting and fascinating history on both sides of my parents. My maternal mother's family, on both sides, were one of the first families to create the present day county of Lycoming in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the place of my birth. They created the first lumber business in that area which flourished for many years. My paternal father's mother's family can trace their roots back to the early history of the British Isles, her maiden name being Grosvenor. Her grandfather, a surgeon, was a contemporary of Charles Dickens. David.

We need more hours in the day. Love other people's Civil War stories, lurk most ' family ' threads because there has yet to be one not interesting. Have a feeling the forum just got even more interesting, thanks for taking it on.

Hope you can come back soon and take care. CWT is an awesome distraction when the rest of the world is stressful. But you know that!

Thank you for giving your time for this topic. I am new at doing research, and am still learning where to search etc. There is so much out there it is difficult for me to find direction. I look forward to your postings. My immediate problem is location photos or images of my ancestors that fought for the South. Most of my ancestors were from Patrick, Carroll (Grayson) County, Henry and Smith counties of Virginia. I am related to JEB. At the top of my search list is for more information on Col. Legrand Shockley CSA that was KIA in the first battle of Saltville, Virginia. I have his history and a photo of his headstone, but no photos of him or his wife. Were is the best place to search for information like this?

Hi, Virginia Dave, I must confess, I don't have a lot of experience with looking for photos, but I suspect a local historical society might have something if there are none that have been passed down through the family.
