The small Ohio River town of Augusta, Kentucky is wanting to put together a Civil War anniversary weekend. The Battle of Augusta took place on September 27th, 1862, between Basil Duke's 2nd Kentucky Cavalry (Morgan's Raiders) and the Bracken County Home Guard. Several of Duke's commanders were killed and mortally wounded in the encounter, and the fighting kept the Confederates from crossing the Ohio and threatening Cincinnati. We would like to create a weekend event that involves living historians/reenactors, that would include a school day on Friday, September 27th (the 157th anniversary), and possibly a battle reenactment. We have not put together such an event before, and have very little reenactment experience in our group, so will need help with planning and execution of the living history portion of the event. If you are interested, email me at ohioatperryville at gmail or message us through our Facebook page.
This might be an ideal event for small or new unit to become involved in, as perhaps their own signature event.
