Just unpacked from the Franklin, Tn show {very well attended} and thought I'd share this little beauty.

It's an "1864/Tower" "anchor/S" carbine, delivered in late 1864/early 1865 to Wilmington or possibly in to the Trans-Mississippi Texas area. "Tipping & Lawton" marked with the "BSAT" roundel.
These late war carbines are harder to find than the earlier "JS/anchor" or later, double stamped "anchor/S" Barnett locked guns, and the majority of surviving P56 carbines show lots of usage. Around 10,000 or more were purchased by the CS Government.

The use of a sling swivel into a makeshift swivel behind the bottom band just makes it even more cool.

The linen CS sling was an added bonus.

Very Nice addition.

How was the Franklin Show? I do the all wars there usually. I missed the last show the first in over 20 years. Thanks for posting the carbine. I have many friends at the Franklin Show. I missed it.

The attendance was very good on Saturday even though the weather wasn't too cooperative. Some new dealers were there as well as most of the regulars. Prices remain soft on average condition Federal ACW stuff, but the CS side remains stable to higher on rare or better condition items. There seems to be more and more WW1 and WW2 items on the tables than ACW, as that's where most of the the interest seems to be now.

Nice CS marked P56 carbine Lanyard Puller.
Did the CS use of the sling result in the removal of the sling bar?
Interesting to see how the sling was attached.

A Brit version of the P56 that did not see the ACW.

I am not surprised about WWI and WWII stuff being there. I do some ACW stuff at the All Wars Show, the week before. I probably be doing my last show around Easter in either March/April.

The ring was removed from the bar, and the bar is still in place.
This is not uncommon to find on these carbines.
Don't know how the 'geometry' would work when it was slung up on a lanyard or shoulder sling while on a horse, but from extant examples there must have been a better way than muzzle down, banging into your leg, especially if loaded with shot and wads.

Nice piece. I set up on the upper level , had an excellent time. I hadn’t done the show in two or three years , seemed to be the same volume , which I thought was good. It was great to see old friends again. Thanks for posting. Mike

Very good piece with an intriguing sling modification. Though I'm not sure it would have held up well in service, and not exactly how I'd go about modifying it to have a sling.

Beautiful acquisition! Thanks for sharing!
