I have found a pension record for my gr x5 grandfather Thomas S. Williams.
Unfortunately the record is horrible and practically illegible. It lists his Infantry regiment, which I think might be Percy or Darcy? Unfortunately it didn't actually list the number of the regiment, just the slang or informal term. He listed the Colonol and Captains, but they are completely illegible.

I know he enlisted in Amherst County Virginia in the Infantry. Does anyone know where I can find a possible regiment and company so I can add this info to my research?

Thanks in Advance!

Kelly

Hi Kelly
Welcome to CivilWarTalk. Let me see what I can find for you. Could you possibly attach and image of the document you are reading from? If we can decipher it, we may be able to determine what regiment he served in.

I've looked through the Virginia Infantry regiments with Amherst County companies and
have not found a Thomas S. Williams yet. I did find a Thomas S. Williams who was from
Amherst County that served with the Second Virginia Cavalry. He was captured in May
1863 near Dranesville Virginia and was paroled at Point Lookout in 1865. I don't know if this
helps but my research in the infantry companies didn't show a Thomas Williams in any of
them. It is possible he could have enlisted in one of the infantry companies and transferred
to the Second Virginia Cavalry later in the war.

Hoping this shows up. It's downloaded from Ancestry.
I'm hoping this might help me locate his brother, Charles Williams, who is my gr grandfather x 5.
(my apologies on my original post, Thomas is actually my gr uncle x5) I'm trying to find Charles as well. I have a photo of Charles, but both he & his wife have both disappeared off the records after the 1860 Census.

Is this a link you can provide? With the help of deciphering the document from 1902 and comparing your research and my own & my uncle's, this might help me solve some mysteries!

I found these service records with my Fold 3 subscription. I'll take a look and see what
I can do as far as linking this up for you.

The Thomas S. Williams I found only had one record card saying his service records were
under the name Thomas L. Williams. He served in Company G and was captured at
Dransville, Virginia in May 1863. He was 5 feet 11 inches and was 28 years old at the
time of his capture. He was paroled at Point Lookout in January 1865. I wish I could
find his place of enlistment but that is not given. I can not link these cards from Fold3
but I hope they ring a bell with you. Is it possible he served under another name?

It is possible. He may not have used his middle initial either?
I was able to confirm thru Census records he was married to a Lucy. He did have a son Thomas L, born 1874 though.
However the birth year is pretty close, calculating his age from the time he was captured. I'll start digging with this info you've provided. Thank you so much for your help!
