Need some help possibly identifying the attached photos. Guy I know claims they are civil war hand grenades. Seem to look similar to the 2.5 Selma hand grenades. They were found in north Alabama. Just trying to see if any professionals have any input on what they could be. If they are even civil war related. If they are, they are rare. Claims he found 8 total approximately 2 to 3 foot deep in the ground. Appreciate any input. P. S. I’m new to the site. Maybe I loaded the photos correctly.

Welcome From THE Heart Of Dixie. The opening is a lot larger than the Selma arsenal version. Could you post some dimensions of the opening and diameter of the overall round. Also, is that a bar across the middle on the inside?

I will get all of those dimensions tomorrow. The hole size was what concerned me as well. The bar is on the inside also.

Welcome from central Ohio. I am not knowledgeable about such things and once bought a Civil War cannonball that turned out to be an ore grinder, whoops!
I cant wait to see the verdict on these.

Hi and welcome. I don't know sick'em about hand grenades, but I'll be watching for answers.

I don't know why only one of them shows up in your post, but they all work when clicked on or advanced in the viewing window. There are a couple of other ways to get them to show - my favorite is to click on Upload a file then upload the photo from your computer. Welcome to the forums!

Ok. So I wrapped a string around this and it measured approximately 9 7/8 inches. So roughly looking at it from the front is about 3”. The inside of the hole, in the top, measuring about 7/8”. From the out sides lip of the hole measured 1 1/2” . I’ll try and get some more pictures posted also.
