June 2, 1856 - June 6, 1856 - Democratic Convention - After 14 ballots, sitting President Franklin Pierce withdraws his name from nomination. Stehen Douglas withdraws at the end of the 16th ballot. James Buchanan is nominated by acclamation.
June 2, 1856 - A committee of the House of Representatives recommends Rep. Brooks be expelled and Rep. Laurence Keitt be censured for the attack on Sen. Charles Sumner. Although the resolution fails, both men resign.
June 2, 1861 - Brig. Gen. Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard, CSA, supersedes Brig. Gen. Milledge Luke Bonham, CSA, in the command of the "Alexandria Line," (also referred to as the "Department of Alexandria," also known as the "Potomac Department."
June 2, 1862 - James Andrews escapes Swims Jail, Chattanooga. He is recaptured the next day.
June 2, 1862 - Affair at Galloway's Farm near Jacksonport, AR, with the advance guard of Maj. Gen. Earl Van Dorn, CSA.
June 2, 1862 - Skirmish on the Little Blue, Jackson County, MO.

June 2, 1864 - Brig. Gen. George Pierce Doles, CSA, is mortally wounded near Bethesda Church, VA, killed instantly by a Union sharpshooter, while inspecting his troops' entrenchment lines.
June 2, 1864 - The engagement with the US steamers, USS Adams and the USS Monarch, Mississippi River, MS, with Col. Colton Green, CSA.
June 2, 1864 - Affair at Covington, VA, with Brig. Gen. William E. "Grumble" Jones, CSA, pitted against Maj. Gen. David Hunter, USA.
June 2, 1864 - Ordered to pursue and destroy General Nathan Bedford Forrest, General John Sturgis leaves Memphis with a force of 8,100 men.
June 2, 1865 - The last Confederate surrender in the Trans-Mississippi Theater.
June 2, 1865 - Federal operations against Indians in the vicinity of Crystal Palace Bluff, about Fort Rice, the Dakota Territory, as one man is reported dying from arrow wounds.
