I picked these up recently from an antique dealer in PA; I'd love to be able to stock the pouch with period cartridges, 20 loose and 2 packs of 10; also want to get rifle tools for the front pocket.
Cool thanks. I see them online from a few reliable shops for way more than 50-70...more like 100-175. Perhaps I will see some at the Gettysburg show on June 30.I see the complete cartridges from time to time and they run anywhere from $50 - $75 and the last time I came across a pack of 10 they were expensive. I will keep an eye out for some for you.
Thank you!Regimental Quartermaster, Lodgewood and S&S firearms all have original musket tools. You'll need an M1861 or 1863 tool and a worm. Usually run in the $35-70 range for each. I believe Regt QM also has an original bayonet scabbard as well.
No, I want to try and make it authentic if possible. I can wait.If you are just looking to fill it up, make yourself (or purchase) some paper rolls and bullets. Fill with sand or rice. That is if you only want it to looked filled.
I'm not going to do anything to this one, I'm currently keeping it in a ziplock bag for protection. But I am sure there are experts here that can provide a better answer.Nice finds!
I have a question: whats the best way to care for, preserve and store leather articles like this from the period?

Nice box and early pattern; you are looking at $4,000+ to fill that sucker up, it appears to have a makers mark on interior flap. The mark will give you an idea of the timeframe of the contract.I picked these up recently from an antique dealer in PA; I'd love to be able to stock the pouch with period cartridges, 20 loose and 2 packs of 10; also want to get rifle tools for the front pocket.
Mabey he should make some to put in there. It be a tad cheaper!Nice box and early pattern; you are looking at $4,000+ to fill that sucker up, it appears to have a makers mark on interior flap. The mark will give you an idea of the timeframe of the contract.
