Although convenient for modern celebrants, I've always disapproved of taking events associated with particular historic dates - including birthdays - and observing them whenever it's most convenient. I remember the outcry when this was attempted with Veteran's Day - formerly Armistice Day - which of course famously occurred on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. Today, probably nobody's left who would know the difference or significance of the date!Perhaps taking advantage of the three day weekend? According to them, MLK would have approved.
Only bland things of no importance offends no one.Odd choice of date, since Lee's birthday is Jan. 19 and Jackson's is Jan. 21; I guess since this appears to be an SCV event it's still okay to commemorate them, even though I'm sure somebody will be offended.
Perhaps more convenience for state workers.Although convenient for modern celebrants, I've always disapproved of taking events associated with particular historic dates - including birthdays - and observing them whenever it's most convenient. Unquestionably, but nonetheless annoying - for example, because of the "holiday" I'll be cut off from the city library and its computers for the next three days!Perhaps more convenience for state workers.
I wish I could be there.
I suggest a national paid holiday for all the offended in the country.Only bland things of no importance offends no one.
Sounds self serving to give yourself a paid holiday. I am offended because I am retired will not benefit.I suggest a national paid holiday for all the offended in the country.

This has been a pretty big deal for many years in Lexington. Since both Lee & Jackson had such ties to the town it was the biggest Lee-Jackson Day celebration and parade around to my knowledge. It is now the Friday preceding MLK day and the state employees get a four day weekend. I have never been but would like to go one day.If anyone went from here, can you please tell about the events/speakers of the weekend? I'm not asking to snark or be rude or to encourage rudeness. I truly didn't know this was even a thing until I read about it here because their birthdays aren't the same days, which really confused me at first.
Most of the events were focused on the character of Lee & Jackson as men, & their Christian faith. Saturday's Lee memorial service was much like a sermon or church service as one would expect, followed by fellowship. If anyone went from here, can you please tell about the events/speakers of the weekend?
