Comparative views facing south along the summit of Little Round Top. The top image is Mathew Brady's mid July 1863 photograph that shows LRT just as the soldiers left it. Within this frame you see the rock breastworks probably constructed by men from the 91st PAV on the right, Brady's often photographed assistant sitting on a stump appearing to be looking towards Devil's Den, as well as the tall pine tree at right center that stood until 1979. The similar view in the ca. 1900 bottom photo includes the guns representing Hazlett's Battery on the left, the 140th and 44th NY monuments, the same witness pine, and barely visible on top of Big Round Top is the observation tower built in 1896.

In wondering if the vegetation has grown over those breast works or they eventually tore it down. I'm trying to recall what that area looks like today. Great pics Greg as always!
The breastworks are no longer there. Check out this pic I put together that includes both shots in the OP as well as a third modern view. You can match the large rock just below the 44th NY Castle in two of the images. Thanks for the comments.

Thanks for the response. Sometimes it's hard to put the image of the battle together due to the changes of time. These T&N's really help to orient things. Thanks again Greg!
